Elliptic problems on networks with constrictions

308 , Mathematics Research Center Building (ori. New Math. Bldg.)

In this talk, I'd like to introduce the paper "Elliptic problems on networks with constrictions" by J.Rubinstein, P.Sternberg and G.Wolansky, and give a sketch of the proof of their results. They investigated the asymptotic behavior of minimizers to sequences of elliptic variational problems posed on thin three-dimensional domains. They characterized an appropriate limit of minimizers as a function of one variable defined on the graph that minimizes a one dimensional variational problem. In the end, I'd like to consider some possibility to generalize their results in several aspects.
