Functional Data Analysis: Some Recent Advancement

405 , Mathematics Research Center Building (ori. New Math. Bldg.)

We discuss some recent advancement in functional data analysis, including regression and classification of functional data. In functional regression, we focus on functional response models where the response variable is a random function and the predictor is a scalar or multivariate vector. We address issues of modeling covariate effects with an application to modeling cohort hazard rates of long-term historical mortality. In functional classification, we focus on clustering problems. Some recently developed functional clustering procedures will be presented. Relevant issues such as spatial constraints will also be discussed briefly.
