Many systems in nature lead to formation of patterns. Some examples include animal skin patterns, vegetation patches in semi arid landscapes, spiral waves in chemical reactions, metal corrosion, hot spots in mircowave heating, and cell aggregation in chemotaxis. Often, these systems can be modelled using PDE's. In this course we study various techniques that are used to construct these patterns and to study their stability. The emphasis will be on asymptotic methods. Topics will be chosen from current research. These include:
