The concept of Ricci solitons was introduced by Richard Hamilton in mid 1980's to study singularity formations in the Ricci flow. Shrinking Ricci solitons are self-similar solutions to Hamilton's Ricci flow and often arise as Type-I singularity models. In this talk, I shall describe some recent progress on the geometry and classifications of complete gradient shrinking Ricci solitons, especially my joint work with Q. Chen on Bach-flat shrinking Ricci solitons.
