In this talk, we discuss some elementary properties of ODEs. For example, the local behavior around regular singularities of the ODEs, Fuchsian equations, Pfaffian  systems and Hamiltonian systems. The topics is based on the book \"From Gauss to Painlev\'e--A modern theory of special functions\".
