We show how to resolve the general conjecture of Basor and Tracy on the asymptotic behavior of Toeplitz determinantswith Fisher-Hartwig singularities. Our results also cover Hankel and Hankel+Toeplitz determinants. We describe many applications from various areas within mathematics/mathematical physics. Toeplitz determinants with Fisher-Hartwig singularities first came into prominence with Onsager's solution fo the Ising model.
