In this talk, we present the paper by Cessi and Young (J. Fluid Mech. 1992). It is well-adopted that when it comes to meridional circulation, for the large scale circulation, there are 4 basic steady state circulations. It is believed that the main ingredients that determine the type of circulation are themo- and haline- gradients. The model under consideration is a doubly-diffusive Boussinesq equation. In this paper, the authors tried to use asymptotic expansion to analyze this problem. In particular, they derived a nonlinear differential equation for the first order approximation of the salinity concentration.
