Political talk shows on TV not only inform viewers on news events, but also deliver comments on the relevant policies or politicians through vivid discussion and gesture. Political talk shows in Taiwan have been political polarized in recent years and been criticized from time to time. Using data of guest composition and viewership of these programs from 2004 to 2008, this project aims to investigate factors contributed to the ideology of a political show program: competition, market size, and consumer preference. Furthermore, the change in ideologies of programs overtime may represent the learning process of programs to find the positions to maximize their own profits. But it is also possible that their profit motive or influential motive changed over time. We will try to distinguish the hypothesis of profit motive, influential motive, and learning process to explain the change in political positions of programs overtime.
