We first introduce Calabi-Yau manifolds and their special Lagrangian submanifolds (SL m-folds). Many problems in special Lagrangian geometry require an understanding of the singularities of SL m-folds, and how they form as limits of nonsingular SL m-folds. One class of singular SL m-folds with particularly good behaviour is SL m-folds with \"isolated conical singularities\". We outline a theory of these SL m-folds, including their deformation theory, how they can be desingularized, and obstructions to their desingularization.
