Starting with linear algebra, we introduce filtered vector spaces w.r.t field extension, the concept of slope and semi-stability. This is an outgrowth from very basic algebra developed only over the past 15 years. We shall try outline the fundamental tensor product theorem, by Faltings, Wüstholz, Totaro, and Fuijimori, which is related to Diophantine approximation.
