The explicit Riemann-Hilbert problem in rank-2 of a 4-holed sphere involves the solution of the Painleve VI equation. The problem is also related to the representation variety of the 4-holed sphere and the topological dynamics of the mapping class group action on this representation variety. We show that a special class of (Riemann-Hilbert) flat connections have monodromy in SU(2).
