The dimensional scaling technique is an innovative asymptotic expansion approach to study multiparticle systems in chemical physics, which enables the calculation of ground and excited state energies of multiparticle systems without having to solve the Schrodinger equation. However, a rigorous mathematical analysis of the dimensional scaling technique seems to be lacking in the literature. In this talk, we present a mathematical justification of the dimensional scaling technique for the Schrodinger equation with a class of power-law potentials. By studying the corresponding minimization problems, the dimensional scaling technique is analyzed from the calculus of variation pointview. Moreover, a new dimensional expansion scheme will be introduced and discussed.
