The Heisenberg group is a prototype of Sub-Riemannian manifold. Starting from no more than the knowledge and techniques from multivariable calculus (and perhaps linear algebra), we introduce basic geometric concepts such as the h(horizontal)-perimeter, h-mean-curvature and the corresponding h-minimal surfaces. Certain basic tools that are used recently on workers in the field such as the first variation of the h-perimeter, integration by parts formula on surfaces will be introduced.
