There are several mathematical models including Poisson-Nernst-Planck and Poisson-Boltzmann equations to describe ion transport which plays important roles in semiconductors, electro-kinetic fluids and ion channels of cell membranes. Many interesting mathematical results have been developed. However, serious discrepancies between models and experiments had been found extensively. In this talk, I shall introduce our recent new models (a reaction-diffusion system with higher order derivative terms and a small parameter) to describe ion transport.
